Foxy's
winter adventures
 Part 16

2012

Foxy and the reindeer 1.

Happy me petting the reindeer Gatti.
The highlight of the winter
The Sami came with another reindeer
Me petting the reindeer Gatti. I took the picture with my right hand.
Gatti. She was so beautiful.
I don't know all the names of the reindeer. There were many of them this year.
This is food for the reindeer. It's lichen
Another white reindeer.
There were  many people. But I cut away people or took pictures there people did not come on my pictures. You may not publish photo  without asking them.
Eating lichen.
These reindeer were not afraid for people. We got lichen of the Sami and then cold take it in your hand trying to feed them.
This reindeer still was a calve but it was a bigger calve.
A curious reindeer. But a hand of people means that there  could be food in the hand. that's why they were interested when you came with your hand.
Somebody petting the calve.
There were bits of lichen that dropped on the ground and the reindeer went searching for them.
Somebody was coming. The reindeer was looking if that somebody had food.
Searching for lichen.
Me feeing the reindeer with lichen. I took the picture with my right hand. But did not succeed to get a picture just when the reindeer took the food.
I dropped some lichen and then the reindeer took it from the ground.
A reindeer trying to hide behind the tree :)
Peek-a-boo!
Searching for lichen that people dropped.
I don't know how many reindeer the Sami had with him. I think it were 9 or 10 reindeer.
Reindeer always must be in a flock. A reindeer will not be alone.
The reindeer was looking at me.
The brown one was rather big and looked impressive.
The bird on the stump is a wooden sculpture.
The blue paint on the white reindeer is a mark that it had got vaccine.
Here I got 6 of them on the same picture.
The whiter reindeer at the right was looking curious at me.
.
This reindeer was smart. The rope was long enough so he could reach the frozen ball of lichen. And started to eat. It looked so funny.
I called the Sami who went there. He did NOT take away the lichen from the reindeer. He cut off bits of it and let the reindeer continue eating until the Sami had cut off more bits of it.

He put bits of lichen in a bag. After that he also let the reindeer eat out of his hand. This was very pedagogic. This Sami was a good reindeer keeper..

I took many pictures of Gatti.
Gatti eating lichen.
Some of the reindeer were allowed to go loose. The did not run away from the flock.
They were walking on the big hill of snow.
At the left are 2 black coffee kettles. They boil the coffee on the open fire.
Gatti searching for more lichen.
He, he, we were looking and observing the reindeer. But the reindeer were looking and observing us. :-)
Still looking at us.
Gatti has such a beautiful head.
These 2 big reindeer looked impressive.
I storing house in the woods.
Gatti was tired and laid down. In the background a wooden reindeer. Children may throw the lasso on it.
Now Gatti was lazy. She took the lichen while lying. This looked so funny :-)
They had reindeer skin on the benches.
Inside the wooden Sami Kåta.
I had souvas wrapped inside flat bread and lingon berry juice to lunch. You could buy this and then eat it in the woods.
Souvas is fried and smoked reindeer meat. You heat it in a pan. Later you have onion and salad on it.
Another wooden Sami Kåta. As it was the Sami week, they had people in the Sami camps who lit a fire.
This is the north Sami house. It had snowed over. It looked like the house had a jacket.
I got this newspaper free. I bought smoked reindeer meat, a dish cloth with a reindeer and a CD with Sami music. Sami musk is hard to find but then the museum had this one.
