Dalahorses

2013-08-08.  Me by a Dala horse. At this place they manufacture Dala horses.
2013-08-08.  Me walking to the big Dala horse
2013-08-08. Ove took a picture of me by the Dala horse.
2013-08-08. The name of the Dala horse factory is Nils Olsson hemslöjd AB in Nusnäs, Dalarna.
2013-08-08. The have the horses in these 5 colours. Red, blue, white, black and wood-colour. But every year they make some horses in another colour. They had one year some horses in green and the next year some in pink. But you only can buy these in the shop by the factory and they are soon out of store.
2013-08-08. First they draw the shape of a horse on wood.
2013-08-08. Then the man cut these with a saw.
2013-08-08. Here you can see better how he is sawing.
2013-08-08.
2013-08-08. Another man cut on the horse so it will be more smooth.
2013-08-08. These horses were cut ready.
2013-08-08. After that they dyed the horses.
2013-08-08. They also had to putty them. After that they dyed them again.
2013-08-08. Somebody was hand painting the decorations on the horses.
2013-08-08. Another picture of the painting. After the horses were decorated, they needed to varnish them.
2013-08-08. Some pictures of the Dala horse workshop.
2013-08-08.  Some horses in orange.
2013-08-08. I don't know why the painted a number on these horses.
2013-08-08. You could order a horse with your name on it. The horses who got a name were in this box.
2013-08-08. They also made Dala painting on wooden shoes.
2013-08-08. A pink pig and snow white horses. These were ordered by a customer.
2013-08-08. Here they made a Dala pig in red. But that's not common. But people can order something special and then they make it.
2013-08-08. These horses were made of soft fabrics
2013-08-08. Dyed horses, but not painted with decorations yet.
2013-08-08. When the horses were ready they took them to the shop beside the factory. Or they send them to handicraft shops all over the country.
2013-08-08. Some pictures of the shop
2013-08-08. Many horses.
2013-08-08. I bought some horses in the shop.
2013-08-08. Dala horses for children. This is real cute.
2013-08-08. As they in Dalarna often have a rooster on the chimney of houses, on churches, flagpoles or maypoles, they also make roosters in the Dalarna stile.
2013-08-08. Ove in front of the factory. Our bus at the right.

The Rättvik Church

2013-08-08. We visited the Rättivk church.
2013-08-08. There was a rooster on the top of the tower. And then a crow was sitting on the head of the rooster. This looked so funny. I showed the picture to the others in my camera display and we all were laughing about it. :-)
2013-08-08. Inside the church.
2013-08-08. A doorway that goes to the cemetery.
2013-08-08. They had the WC in this house.
2013-08-08. Old stables from the time people went to the church with the horse and carriage.
2013-08-08. The church was lying by a lake. Unfortunately the sky was dark. But at least it was not raining :-)
2013-08-08. A Vasa monument on a hill by the lake.
2013-08-08. The monument.
2013-08-08. I took this picture of the other side of the lake with the telephoto lens. The white in the foreground is a part of the lake.
2013-08-08. A road on the other side of the lake.
2013-08-08. We went to Klockargården. A restaurant there we had our lunch. By this restaurant were houses with handicraft.
2013-08-08. The horse was in former time very important in Dalarna. Because they used horses in the Falun copper mines. And then they often made horse toys for the children.
2013-08-08. This car was painted with Dala decoration. It looked real nice.
2013-08-08. The handicraft village by the restaurant.
2013-08-08. There were apples in the garden.
2013-08-08. Beautiful red apples.
2013-08-08. There are flowers in this garden but also art flowers made of glass.
2013-08-08. This one was beautiful.
2013-08-08. A typical Dalarna maypole with a rooster in the top.
2013-08-08. This house and the garden are looking so pretty. They are selling handicraft made of glass in the house.
2013-08-08. A big bowl of glass for the garden. A pretty rose in it.
2013-08-08. This wooden horse says "Welcome".
2013-08-08.  This house looks so pretty.
2013-08-08. The reason the house is called "klockargården" is because there is a bell on the top of the house. Bell means klock. And the word "klock" means also clock.
2013-08-08. We had a delicious salmon dish for lunch at Klockargården.
To the blacksmith's workshop
2013-08-08. The blacksmith was making a candle.
2013-08-08. The fire.
2013-08-08.
2013-08-08. Here the candle is ready. And this is a typical Dalarna candle. You can buy it in this colour but also painted in black.
2013-08-08.
2013-08-08. The name of the workshop is: "Käck & Hedbyns smides AB".
2013-08-08. The rain was pouring down when we walked from the blacksmith to the bus. Ove has his hood on.
2013-08-08. There was a raindrop on my lens and destroyed the picture of hooded Ove. But I liked this picture, so I put it in this site.
2013-08-08. I took this picture of the post van in Leksand from the bus.
2013-08-08. We visited this mansion. In former times it belonged to a doctor named Axel Munthe. They had guiding inside the house. But we were not allowed to take pictures.
2013-08-08. The rain was still pouring down. We could borrow en umbrella.
2013-08-08. The house was lying by a lake. It should have been lovely here if not it had been raining.
2013-08-08. The garden.
2013-08-08. Ove needed his hood again
2013-08-08. In the evening we had a delicious dinner in the restaurant by the cottages. This day we got a first course. Flat bread filled with reindeer meat in mayonnaise.
2013-08-08. The main course was fish, boiled potatoes and pickled vegetables.
2013-08-08. They had an aquarium in the restaurant. The staff fed them and then I could get a picture of all the fishes together.
2013-08-08. Ove was reading the newspaper on his tablett. There are raindrops on my jacket. It was raining when we walked from the cottage to the restaurant.
2013-08-08. Laughter in the rain. :-)
